THIS!  IS!  GAMER!

Yes, Gerad Butler does an absolutely fantastic job in the movie Gamer.  Ok, who am I kidding, in a movie such as this, the majority of his acting consists of shooting at somebody, getting shot at by somebody, or directing the sole of his boot at the face of somebody.  At least unlike in 300, you can take the actual drama of the story a bit more seriously this time around because the hundreds of soldiers you see in this movie are wearing more than just a six-pack and red skivvies.

We have seen so many movies based on video games.  Super Mario Brothers, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Silent Hill, Doom, the list goes on and on.  This is one of few…or the first in a very very long time, movies about video games in general, and so far I think this one takes the cake.  Theres a lot of gamer terminology thrown in here as well, a nod to us gamers that they haven’t forgotten the nerd in all of us.  (Console nerds need not apply, everyone uses a COMPUTER in this movie….oops..I think I just set a few people off just there)  Later on, I may make an in-depth review because I can’t really seem to talk much about this movie without really spoiling a lot of things.  (I’ll put a spoiler label so don’t worry.)

Surpisgnly enough, if I’m correct in recalling that the trailer of this movie first appeared in Xbox LIVE and sponsored by Halo 3, there isn’t a single Xbox or console period reference in here.  The only game related ad placement that I saw was an Alienware head on the top of a skyscraper video screen.

In fact I didn’t even here any variation of the word newbie either…a sign that the silly little fad needs to die?  Anyway, I find it strange since Halo was a sponsor of the movie and yet they didn’t get any part of it; instead they went straight to the PC ads.  I hear a possible lawsuit coming.  Or this can be a wake up call to the “professional” game designers who always decide it’s best to save that PC build of they’re game for later.  (And hence turning out to be a system hogging piece of shit 8 months later.)

If your an FPS fan, or any kind of gamer in general, you owe it to yourself to see this movie.  Now stop reading this, and go out and see it before it goes in limbo between theater and DVD…..or else you’re gonna get
